Stake review: fast rails, no bonus, Curaçao licence

This is a Stake casino NZ review, so the boring parts get checked first: licence, operating entity, DIA status. Then the money.

Verdict: Stake has the strongest payment reputation on the DIA list and the weakest bonus offer on it — on reputation, not on my own withdrawals. Both are true at once, and which one decides your account depends on why you’re here. R1. Licence checked against the Curaçao register, entity matched to the footer, DIA list checked. No deposits, so no first-hand payout times — that alone keeps it under 8.5. 6.8. Not a paying partner yet, so the link below is plain.

Two complaints in the last 90 days, both about identity checks landing after the withdrawal request. Neither is a refusal. Read those before you decide the speed claims are yours to enjoy.

What Stake actually is

A crypto-first casino and sportsbook run by Medium Rare N.V. out of Curaçao, big enough that its originals are cloned across the market. Originals, slots, live dealer, sports. Stake.us is a different product with a different licence and it does not cover New Zealand — if you land there by accident, nothing on this page applies.

Licence

Medium Rare N.V., Seru Loraweg 17, Curaçao, licence OGL/2024/1451/0918 from the Curaçao Gaming Authority. That is the current number. Plenty of pages still quote 8048/JAZ, which was the old Antillephone sublicence and is no longer the operative one — a useful way to tell whether a review was actually checked or copied.

Curaçao is a real licence and a weak one. It is not a New Zealand licence, and after 1 December that distinction starts costing something. Stake New Zealand Limited is one of eleven entities holding a right to apply after the October auction, which puts it in the exemption group rather than the exit group — but a right to apply is not a licence, and DIA has not granted one to anybody yet.

What that means in practice: Stake can keep serving you past 1 December, without advertising, until the Secretary decides or until 1 June 2027. If the application is declined, the exemption dies that day.

Bonus maths

There is no welcome bonus. No match deposit, no free spins, no package. If you came for a signup offer, this is the wrong casino and the rest of the review is moot.

What exists instead is rakeback: a percentage of every wager returned to you, win or lose, credited as real balance. Every VIP tier gets it. Wagering requirements don’t apply to rakeback because there’s nothing to wager — it lands as withdrawable balance. Reload bonuses start at Platinum, weekly and monthly bonuses sit higher up again.

Run the maths honestly and rakeback is a rebate, not a bonus. At Bronze percentages it returns single-digit fractions of a percent of volume, which suits someone grinding thousands of spins and does very little for a player depositing $50 once. The structure rewards exactly the behaviour that costs you most.

Rakeback percentages by tier and the level-up thresholds are published in Stake’s help centre. I have not modelled them against a real bankroll, so the rates are R4.

Payments

Crypto in and out: BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, DOGE, TRX, USDT and others, plus card and bank rails in some regions. Minimum deposit sits around $1 equivalent, R4 — low enough to be irrelevant either way.

Withdrawals are the part Stake built its name on. The claim is instant processing with no fee, and it is repeated by enough players that the mechanism is real enough to plan around. I haven’t moved money, so it stays R4. Stake states no withdrawal fee and I found none in the fee clauses. Whether a rail charges you on the way out is a different question and one I can’t answer from here.

KYC

Light-touch at signup, triggered at withdrawal. That’s the standard crypto arrangement and it’s also where the two complaints come from: the check appears after you’ve asked for the money, not before you deposited. Do it early. Upload before the first request and the queue never touches you.

Terms worth reading

The clauses that matter are the ones about multiple accounts and bonus abuse, because rakeback is where the value is and where the enforcement bites. Stake pays rakeback on volume, so volume farming gets looked at. One account, one person, matching payment details. The second account for “just the sportsbook” is the usual mistake.

Account closure forfeits nothing — there’s no bonus balance to lose. Dormant balances sit there. Nothing in the terms expires a dormant balance that I could find — unusual, and worth knowing.

Provably fair

Originals run on client and server seeds with a verifier, so results are checkable rather than asserted. It’s a real implementation, not a badge. I haven’t run a verification myself — R4 on the mechanics, R1 on it existing.

Support

Live chat, 24/7, template-heavy. Ask something the template doesn’t cover — a specific withdrawal threshold, a specific KYC document — and you get an answer, just not quickly. R4. No demo walk, so no timings recorded.

Complaints

Two, dated, both identity-related, both resolved at the point the documents cleared. Stake’s broader reputation for closures is louder than two complaints suggests, but reputation isn’t a dated series and doesn’t get to move a number here.

Who it’s for

Volume players who want crypto rails and don’t need a signup carrot. People who already understand that a rebate beats a 40x-wagered match bonus at the sizes they actually play.

Who it’s not for

Anyone whose decision depends on a welcome bonus, because there isn’t one. Anyone who wants a New Zealand licence today, because nobody has one. And anyone who’ll panic at a KYC request three days after depositing — it will come, and if that’s the deal-breaker, go somewhere slower.

What I didn’t verify

Payout times with my own money. Demo flow — no walk, no chat timings. Rakeback percentages against a real bankroll. The seed verifier, run end to end. And whether the New Zealand application actually progresses, which nobody outside DIA can tell you.

If you’ve withdrawn from Stake recently, post the amount and the date. That’s what moves this from 6.8 to the 8.5 ceiling.

Score 6.8 — capped for 2 unresolved withdrawal complaints, no R3 payout series
